About this coin
Long did she reign: A touching tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth II It seems impossible that Queen Elizabeth, our longest-reigning monarch is no longer with us, having passed away on 8 September 2022, aged 96. Head of state in 15 countries including the UK and leader of a Commonwealth encompassing 54 countries, she was succeeded by her son, King Charles III. Queen Elizabeth II was a truly extraordinary symbol of stability in an increasingly troubled world: much more than when she replaced her father, King George VI, following his death in February 1952. Reigning for a record 7 decades, her strong sense of duty was evident from the very first, even while still in mourning. Her relentless dedication to duty became legendary. An early instance was her first Christmas broadcast in 1952; although understandably nervous, she handled it with charm and warmth. Although a reserved person, her humanity antd humour often showed. Just a year after her coronation she was the first reigning monarch to visit Australia in 1954. Some three-quarters of our population turning out to welcome her and the Duke of Edinburgh in an epic nation-wide tour. She won many hearts with her 'Royal Walkabouts' where she forever changed the way royalty would meet and greet people: she and Prince Philip often did so by foot, meeting enthusiastic fans in person rather than simply waving from the royal car. In mourning her lamented passing, The Bradford Mint offers this respectful and exclusive Memorial Commemorative Double Crown crafted from solid silver (with a gold inlay of her personal insignia) to the highest numismatic standards. Her finely detailed and beautiful portrait is flanked by her declaration of loyalty to the Empire: “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your servic e and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” Truly words to live by - and she did. The other side shows the new portrait of King Charles III. Truly a fitting tribute to be treasured.
